Family years are a time of growth for children and parents.

You’re watching your lives transform into something new every season.

Transitions can be an exciting and stressful process for kids and families.

Each year brings new hopes, dreams, adventures, problems, and fears.

Families are facing new challenges at home, school, work, and social settings.

Maybe your family is struggling with:

  • conflict or communication

  • big life changes

  • illness or disability

  • mental health concerns

  • neurodiversity or gender diversity

You want to feel like a good parent.

You want your family to have a good life and your kids to be prepared for the future.

Parenting is difficult to navigate, especially when someone you love is struggling.

As a parent, you want to:

  • be confident in your decisions and actions

  • feel more connected with yourself and others

  • navigate the ups and downs of relationships

  • support your child at every stage of development

  • give your family everything they need to succeed

Maybe your relationship with your child, your partner, or your own parent doesn’t look the same anymore.

Perhaps the approaches you used in the past aren't working anymore, or you and your partner might disagree on how to handle things.

A family counsellor can help you figure out what to do next to get back on track.

Your family can engage in healthy ways and build strong connections.

It is possible to speak, listen and communicate with kindness.

When you gather with a mission to understand each other, everyone in the family can feel accepted and encouraged.

Home can be a safe haven again where you laugh, play, and have fun more often.

You can enjoy family time and look forward to making memories together.

What if your family could...

  • have clear boundaries

  • believe and trust each other

  • work through problems

  • enjoy being together

  • be supportive

A good family therapist helps you find what works best for you and your kids.

Families can come in all varieties with unique experiences, cultures, and identities.

We don't have the perfect ready made solution for your concerns, but we can help you find a better way forward.

Counselling provides a space where to explore your needs and preferences so you can build new skills to meet your goals.

With family therapy, you can:

  • better understand yourself

  • identify and express emotions

  • build positive connections

  • gain new tools to help you succeed

  • feel confident and hopeful

You might still have some questions or concerns about family counselling...

Question: Does insurance cover family counselling?

Answer: Private insurance usually covers individual and family therapy for the insured member as well as their dependents. You can check with your provider or read our Insurance Guide. We offer direct billing for most insurance companies.

Question: How much does family counselling cost?

Answer: Our family therapy sessions are $220 with a Psychologist or Social Worker with direct billing for most insurance companies, or a receipt to claim for re-imbursement or as a medical expense on your taxes. Family counselling sessions with a Certified Canadian Counsellor are $180; check with your insurance to confirm coverage for mental health counselling. Sliding scale fees are available.

Question: Is teen counselling private and confidential?

Answer: Our family counsellors discuss with parents and teens what information will be kept private and what will be shared (safety concerns). To build a good relationship, youth need to know they can trust their therapist. If teens are going to solo therapy, they can choose what to share with their parents after sessions. Sometimes teens invite their parents to join for portions of sessions.

Question: How do we choose a family counsellor?

Answer: If it's for you as a parent, you can read our therapist profiles and choose based on what feels like a good fit. If it's for your teen, you can let them read our family counselling page and our therapist bios, and they can decide. You can also meet the therapist for a free consultation first. If you're not sure, we can help match you to the family counsellor best equipped to meet your family's needs & availability.

Question: Should we all see the same family counsellor?

Answer: It's up to you and your teen. Family Systems therapy considers the whole family unit and benefits from gaining perspectives from parents and youth, however, some teens feel more comfortable if their parent has a different therapist, so this is also a great option!

Question: What if my teen doesn't want to do counselling?

Answer: That's okay! It can be hard to go to therapy. The best thing you can do is give your teen information and choice. Let them know they can meet with a couple therapists first to find a good fit and decide who they want to see, when they're ready. We offer individual counselling and couples counselling for adults and parents too. You can still improve your family life by going to therapy for yourself.
