Jiwon You (she/her),
Korean Therapist Calgary
REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST
Online BIPOC trauma therapist for adults in Calgary & Alberta
It's time to feel worthy and care for yourself.
Maybe you feel you are not good enough, won’t be accepted by others, or your difficult past will never leave you. Perhaps you’re exhausted from carrying the heavy sense of guilt and shame you feel you can’t talk about.
I work with people who feel self-critical, ashamed, hopeless, or stuck.
My name is Jiwon, Psychologist and Trauma Therapist Calgary. I'm a Korean Canadian immigrant from South Korea. I live on Treaty 7 land in what is now called Calgary. I offer online therapy specializing in helping people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family of origin issues, discrimination, trauma, and sexual violence. I like to work with adults of all ages, especially 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC populations. I offer therapy in Korean and English.
Difficult feelings can impact all aspects of your life and limit the possibilities for positive events and relationships. Such pain can be especially amplified when you are part of a marginalized group.
Your needs matter. You can heal, and you deserve to find a therapist who can empathize with you and provide support for your unique experiences and needs. I will meet you with care and warmth to help you move toward healing.
As a therapist of color and immigrant to Canada, I have experienced and identify deeply with some of the common struggles faced by the BIPOC and immigrant communities. I wish to be someone who can help you from your point of view.
Many of our concerns and symptoms are our body’s way of protecting us from the difficulties in life. Such ways of coping make sense and have served us in the past. Even if they keep us stuck now, when we meet them with compassion and curiosity instead of judgment, we can learn more about ourselves.
You and your concerns will be honored, and together we will identify the strengths and wisdom you already possess. By meeting your unmet needs, you can move out of a stuck pattern and find new possibilities that serve you better.
In our sessions, you will feel warmth, freedom, and respect. I provide a safe space for you to be accepted as you are. I show up as my authentic human self and offer care with genuine curiosity, humor, and compassion for you to feel seen and heard safely. I get to know you first before your problems, and you will get to know me as a person.
I work with both mind and body to help you know and feel your innate power and embody new patterns.
I am guided by somatic, feminist and culturally sensitive approaches that consider the impacts of personal, social, cultural, and systemic factors to your struggles. When you can accept yourself and your situation with kindness and care, you can trust yourself even in hard times and face barriers with courage.
Therapy is a collaborative process; you bring the expertise of your own life, and I bring the knowledge about therapy and gentle guidance when needed.
You will be empowered to exercise your voice and agency in therapy. I offer skills, knowledge, and a space where you can nurture your emotions, body, and compassion for yourself. Together, we can build safety and regulation.
You can release your shame and guilt and make long-lasting changes. You can stand up for yourself and quiet your critical inner voice. The journey to healing is not linear, but it is possible.
I will meet you where you are, and I would be honored to walk with you on this path toward finding your inherent worth and feeling light, energized, and free.
